Shady Grove goes to Washington - posted 8/19/09

Shady Grove Baptist Church members along with family and friends recently traveled to Washington, D.C., and spent four days of sightseeing in the nation’s capital.  The group is shown above posing for pictures on the steps of the United States Capitol with South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn.

Attending a premier performance of the Broadway Show "The Color Purple" at The Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts with the return of American Idol star Fantasia Barrino was also a thrilling event.  The last day of the trip was spent worshipping with the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, where Vernell Knuckles Knox, sister of music minister Mary Knuckles Jones, has been a member for many years.

Pastor's anniversary
The Shady Grove Baptist Church family will observe the Third Pastoral Anniversary of their pastor, Rev. Lee Byers, Jr. and First Lady Esther Byers on Sunday March 8th. The guest speaker for the 11 o’clock worship service was Minister Mae Della Cureton, Associate Minister of the First Baptist Church of Earl, NC. At 3:00 p.m., Rev. Michael Bridges, pastor of the Concord Baptist Church was the guest speaker
