In an emergency, having the right information can be the difference between life and death. A new program hopes to tilt the balance towards life.

Smart911 is a free service that allows citizens to create a profile for their household that can provide essential medical information to 9-1-1 and emergency management officials during an emergency. This information can include details on prescribed medications that a victim or family member may not be able to discuss when help arrives.

Shady Grove Baptist Church hosted a special program after morning service Nov. 16 where several members helped others sign up for the Smart911 service using their personal laptops and a mobile hotspot.

The signup will be offered again Nov. 23 after morning service. All members are invited to join in.
